Unitary Terran Republic

The Unitary Terran Republic is a Mobile Planet commonly residing in the third band of the Sol system. It is one of the only two celestial bodies in the Sol system with liquid surface water, beside Aresia. It is the origin of the human race, when it started in what is now known as Abyssinia. Terra boasts a population of 74,9 billion inhabitants, making it the second most populous in the inner Sol system. As of 3371 A.D. Terra's atmosphere consists of 66% nitrogen, 30% oxygen, 3% carbon dioxide and the remaining 1% consists of various other gases such as neon, argon, helium, methane, krypton and hydrogen.

Roughly 59,15% of Terra's surface is covered in liquid water in the form of rivers, oceans, lakes, and seas. The remaining 40,85% is covered in dry land in the form of deserts, forests, plains, hills, mountains, cities, and Jannenpolderstates, along with various other climates. Terra's climate is largely unstable and experiences drastic weather changes due to Terran cost saving regarding the creation of its Mobility Megastructure, as well as a long history of environmental abuse and neglect, dating back to 1760 A.D. The drastic weather in question can switch from -8°C to 56°C in a matter of days in temperate climates. Before the Tropicalisation of the Sahara temperatures would regularly reach 128°C in that region and it was declared uninhabitable for 48 years until the UTNO took action by creating the Sahelia Lake and Greater Chad Lake.

Etymology

Terra is the Latin translation for the word Earth in English. 'Earth' was used to refer to the Sol system's third planet in pre-pan-unification times. Earth referred literally to the fertile rich soil on the planet, which at the time was exclusive to Earth. The name change from Earth to Terra occured to enhance planetary unity and to signify a new societal age for the planet.

History

In 2579 A.D. the Terran pan-unification occured, erasing all borders and turning the planetary government unitary. This was partially possible due to the establishment of the High-Hypersonic MagLev Network which allowed for transportation to the other side of the planet in roughly three hours. Up until 2854 A.D. Terra's political state was relatively fine until the events that transpired on November 2nd, 2854. Although the damage done to the Sundown Tower did not make it collapse, the exact cause or motivation was never accurately revealed. This led to public paranoia taking a foothold, eventually turning into extraphobia by the general public.

When extraphobic parties started winning in polls and inevitably elections, the Unitary Terran Republic started putting tariffs on imports, and starting ramping up industry to become more independent from other Mobile Planets. This sense of 'nationalism' continued to extremify, but only on Terra. Lunars did not agree with Terra's new political state and grew increasingly dissident with each other. The political dissent on Terra grew to an extent to where an attempted coup was staged, which failed and collapsed into a brief 26-day civil war. This is known as the Terran Fall From Grace. After 14 days, nationalist right-wingers managed to seize Doggerstadt entirely and a further 12 days to secure all other areas of Terra. Though anti-right-wing resistance did not fully cease until 54 years later.

During the Terran Fall From Grace, Luna forced itself to disconnect with Terra after a staged explosion in all 8 space elevators connecting Luna and Terra, and Luna stayed in Terra's orbit for a further 2 months before the new right-wing government on Terra stated its intentions to forcefully reclaim Luna. The Lunars did not take kindly to it and used their Mobile Satellite status to exit Terra's orbit, and are now considered a remote, independent mobile stellae far from Terra.
