Sol is a G2V class star in the center of the Sol system, lying in the unofficial nullth band. Its surface burns at a continuous average temperature of 5643 degrees celsius. Sol is the single largest object in the Sol system, and the only star within the system. As of today, no man-made vessel has ventured deeper than 135,9 miles into the photosphere.

The word 'sol' comes from the Latin translation for the word 'sun', which comes from the ancient Old English word 'sunne', which originates from the even more ancient Proto-Germanic language's word 'sunnōn'. In ancient times, Sol was seen as a god, and the word 'sun' was used to describe that god. Hence, the name 'sun' was chosen for the star in the center of the Sol system. As humanity started to before an interplanetary species, the name 'Sol' was used instead of 'sun', and the name has stuck ever since.
